Corcovado National Park:

Corcovado National Park preserves the last part of the Mesoamerican Pacific humid tropical forest.  Its location, its climatic characteristics, the inconsistent state of its soils, and its topography make this place a fantastic diversity of biological species.

It has flora that adds thousands of species, many of which have a restricted distribution and that have disappeared in other regions, as well as fauna that is distinguished by the diversity of its species, even more so when you consider that large numbers of people are in danger of extinction which occurs in the region.

The park is on the Osa Peninsula’s Pacific coast in the Puntarenas Province.  It has an area of approximately 50,000 land and 5,000 marine hectares.

Corcovado has 2.5% of the world’s biodiversity, not for nothing, as in November 2016, National Geographic declared it the best park in the world.

Corcovado has five stations (places where park rangers take care of our gem, apart from those who go through the mountains and protect our paradise).

  • Los Patos Station.
  • Site the plans.
  • San Pedrillo Station.
  • La Leona Station.

Of these five stations, the only one that provides room and board is the Sirena Biological Station.  This store sells natural juices, artisanal chocolates, and staple foods.  The accommodation can accommodate 70 people.  This is on a platform with shared cabins, toilets, and showers.

We arrive in Sirena by boat from Puerto Jiménez or Drake Bay.  And on the way to enjoy more, walk about 9 hours

from the Puerto Jiménez sector, you will catch private transportation to Carate or Los Patos.

Sirena has four trails: Espaveles, Naranjos, Río Claro, and Sirena Trail, that we can ride if we spend two nights in this station.

Itinerary:

Arrive on your own at Cabinas Marcelina in Puerto Jiménez.  Dinner is at the expense of the tourists.

As the departure time for Los Patos Train Station is 5:00 a.m., the journey takes approximately 2 hours.  When you arrive in Los Patos, start the walk 23 kilometers until you reach Sirena, where you will spend 2 nights.  After a walk of around 8 hours, it is perfect to rest and wait for dinner.

5:00 am departure for the mouth of the Sirena River to experience a different and unforgettable sunrise between the sweet song of the birds and the relaxing sound of the sea, seeing how the river would die.  In this magical place there is also the possibility of observation: bull sharks, crocodiles and a large number of water birds.  After observing and enjoying the surroundings, we return to the train station for breakfast.  After breakfast, visit the Espaveles and Sirena trails, at the end of the tour trails, return to the train station for lunch and rest.

Then they get ready with their swimsuits as they walk along the Río Claro path and here they go through a “natural pool” where they can bathe.  After cooling down, continue towards Naranjos Trail.  This path will take you to the beach where you will have the opportunity to watch an unforgettable sunset and then after a busy day you will return to the train station to rest and wait for the exquisite dinner and prepare our backpack there  the next day after breakfast we will start a new walk towards the sector The Lioness.
