Description: Corcovado National Park preserves the last portion of the Mesoamerican Pacific Rainforest. Its location, climatic characteristics, the capricious condition of its soils, and its topography make this site home to an astonishing diversity of biological species.
It has a flora that totals thousands of species, many of which have a restricted distribution and have disappeared in other regions, as well as a fauna that stands out for the diversity of its species, even more so if we consider that a significant number of them are on the list of those in danger of extinction.
The Park is located on the Pacific coast of the Osa Peninsula in the province of Puntarenas. It covers an area of approximately 50,000 hectares on land and 5,000 hectares in the sea.
Corcovado has 2.5% of the world’s biodiversity; it is no wonder that in November 2016, National Geographic declared it the best park on the planet.
Corcovado has five stations (places where park rangers look after our jewel, apart from those who walk among the mountains and protect our paradise).
*Los Patos Station.
*Los Planes Station.
*San Pedrillo Station.
*La Leona Station.
*Sirena Biological Station.
Of these five stations, the only one with accommodation and food is the Sirena biological station, which features a shop where you can purchase natural juices, handmade chocolates, and other essentials. The accommodation has space for 70 people on a platform with shared cabins, shared toilets, and showers.
Sirena has four trails: Espaveles, Naranjos, Río Claro, and Sendero Sirena, which we can walk when we spend two nights at the station.
This tour has an approximate duration of 9 hours.
Leaving Playa Blanca at 4:45 a.m., this trip takes approximately 2 hours in a 4×4 car. This route has an approximate duration of 2 hours in a 4×4 vehicle to the Los Patos station.
Upon arrival, we check in and start the walk of approximately 8 hours towards the Station Sirena, where we will spend 2 nights amid the jungle’s magic.
At 5:00 am, you will head towards the mouth of the Sirena River to experience a different and unforgettable sunrise. Between the sweet song of the birds and the relaxing sound of the sea, you will also be able to see how the river flows into the sea. In this magical place, there is also the possibility of observing Bull sharks, crocodiles, and a significant number of aquatic birds. After observing and enjoying the environment, you will return to the station to have breakfast, and then continue walking the trails, Espaveles, and Sirena. At the end of these trails, you will return to the station to have lunch and rest.
After this rest, you will get ready with your swimming costume, as you will go through the Rio Claro trail. Here, you will pass by a “natural pool” where you can take a refreshing dip. Then, you will continue to the Naranjos trail, which takes you to the beach, where you can watch an unforgettable sunset. Overnight stay and dinner at the resort.
Departure to the La Leona Sector after breakfast. This walk takes you along the beach and into the forest. It takes approximately 8 hours to get to Carate.
During the walk, we rest and enjoy a delicious snack overlooking the sea. When we arrive in Carate, we
