CORCOVADO TREK

Important: To / from Puerto Jiménez – Entrance through Los Patos and exit through Carate.

Recommend minimum age: 12 years

Corcovado National Park:

Corcovado National Park preserves the last part of the Mesoamerican Pacific humid tropical forest. Its location, climatic characteristics, inconsistent soils, and topography make it a place with a fantastic diversity of biological species.

It has flora that adds thousands of species, many of which have a restricted distribution and that have disappeared in other regions, as well as fauna that is distinguished by the diversity of its species, even more so when you consider that large numbers of people are in danger of extinction which occurs in the region.

The park is on the Osa Peninsula’s Pacific coast in the Puntarenas Province.  It has an area of approximately 50,000 land and 5,000 marine hectares.

Corcovado has 2.5% of the world’s biodiversity, not for nothing, as in November 2016, National Geographic declared it the best park in the world.

Corcovado has five stations (places where park rangers take care of our gem, apart from those who go through the mountains and protect our paradise).

  • Los Patos Station.
  • Site the plans.
  • San Pedrillo Station.
  • La Leona Station.

Of these five stations, the only one that provides room and board is the Sirena Biological Station.  This store sells natural juices, artisanal chocolates, and staple foods.  The accommodation can accommodate 70 people.  This is on a platform with shared cabins, toilets, and showers.

We arrive in Sirena by boat from Puerto Jiménez or Drake Bay.  And on the way to enjoy more, walk about 9 hours

from the Puerto Jiménez sector, you will catch private transportation to Carate or Los Patos.

Sirena has four trails: Espaveles, Naranjos, Río Claro, and Sirena Trail, that we can ride if we spend two nights in this station.

Itinerary:

Arrival by your own means at Cabinas Leyla in Playa Blanca. Dinner at your own expense.

At 4:45 a.m., we leave for Los Patos Station, a journey that takes approximately 2 hours. When we arrive at Los Patos, we will start the 23-kilometre journey until we arrive at Sirena Station, where we will spend 2 nights. We will stay overnight and have dinner at the station.

At 5:00 am, you will head towards the mouth of the Sirena River to experience a different and unforgettable sunrise; between the sweet song of the birds and the relaxing sound of the sea, you will also be able to see how the river dies into the sea. In this magical place, there is also the possibility of observing Bull sharks, crocodiles, and many aquatic birds. After observing and enjoying the environment, you will return to the station to have breakfast and then continue to walk the trails, Espaveles and Sirena; at the end of these trails, you will return to the station to have lunch and rest.
After this rest, you will get ready with your swimming costume because you will go through the Rio Claro trail. Here, you will pass by a “natural pool” where you can take a refreshing dip. Then, you will continue to the Naranjos trail; this will take you to the beach, where you can observe an unforgettable sunset. Overnight stay and dinner at the resort.

At 5:30 a.m., we have breakfast to start a 20-km hike to Carate. On this day, the clients have a hearty breakfast at the station, and it is up to them to buy fruit, bars, etc., for the hike to Carate. Accommodation is in Cabinas Leyla. Dinner is on your own.
