PEJIBAYE TO CERRO DE LA MUERTE

A new and fantastic option for trekking lovers to explore both sides of our diverse country: the evergreen Caribbean Turrialba & Orosi Valley in combination with the southern highlands, close to the Cerro de la Muerte of over 3400m, continuing downhill, passing through dense forests and areas where only hikers and locals on horses may pass by. It is a unique highlight literally off the beaten tracks with your private trekking guide.

Level intermediate-advanced: This walk is operated with a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 14 people. The walker must only carry a bag with the necessary clothing for those days; they cannot carry suitcases.
It is required to have experience in strong walks and be in good physical condition. It is recommended to do this walk throughout the year, with the exception of the winter months (SEP/OCT). The rates include all taxes and private transportation from Londres de Quepos to Manuel Antonio or Quepos (your indicated drop-off point).
From 2-4 participants, a local private guide is included.
From 5 participants on, an additional support guide accompanies you.

Itinerary:

You can be picked up in San Jose with a bilingual guide, continue to Pejibaje de Jimenez for breakfast, and then have a car transfer to the lodge. The hike will be on a trail approximately 21km long, with an advanced difficulty level and a duration of approximately 6 hours.

It includes three meals. The accommodation would be at Rio Macho Lodge, which has electricity and hot water.

After breakfast, depart for your hike on a dirt road and coffee plantation, which will take approximately 5 hours and be 18 km long with an intermediate difficulty level.

Includes three meals—lodging in Muñeco de Navarro, a rustic place with hot water and electricity.

After breakfast and departure, continue your hike on a ballast road and trails, with a duration of 14km and a difficulty level of intermediate-advanced with approximately 4 hours.

Includes all three meals. Accommodation is in Verde Sana, with shared rooms, hot water, and electricity.

After breakfast, depart for your hike on a gravel road, which will take approximately 4 hours and have a duration of 11km, an intermediate difficulty level.

Includes three meals—lodging in Cerro Alto, hot water, and electricity.

After breakfast, depart to continue with your hike on trails, which will take approximately 2 hours and have a duration of 5km. The difficulty level is intermediate.

Breakfast is at 6:00 a.m., and the hike starts at 7:00 a.m. This hike starts at 2900 masl, goes up to 3000 masl, and ends at 2700 masl, a journey of approximately 13 kilometers up and down. During the hike, you will observe spectacular views of the central valley in a paramo forest and cloud oak forest.
Lunch en route. Arriving at the Cañazo lodge, Enrique, our friendly host, awaits us with a delicious coffee from the mountains of the Los Santos area. We enjoy a spectacular view of the Central Pacific and a Cañazo with a beautiful sunset. Dinner and overnight in tents.

Our journey begins with a 6 a.m. breakfast, preparing us for a 15.8-kilometre hike to Las Rejas at 6:45 a.m. This route, which winds through primary and secondary forests, mostly oak, offers a breathtaking view of the Central Pacific and the two cleanest river basins in Central America. Our experienced guides will not only lead us but also share the mysteries of the area’s nature and the legends of the pioneers, enriching our journey.

Overnight at Rancho Quetzal y Tucan Lodge, where you will have lunch, dinner, and breakfast. This lodge has cabins.

Get ready for an early start with breakfast at 5:15 am, followed by the commencement of our trek at 6:30 am. This early start is designed to take you deep into the mountain, offering the best chance to catch a glimpse of the majestic resplendent quetzal, a sight that will surely be worth the early rise.
Lunch is en route and wrapped in banana leaves, living with nature. This Betania community is 1013 meters above sea level, with temperatures between 18º and 25º. Betania Lodge is a two-story house in a pasture in the middle of the forest surrounded by mountains. At sunrise, the view of the forest is spectacular, along with the sound of the birds around you!

Las Rejas starts at 1960 and climbs and descends steadily to 1765 masl, dropping to 1013 masl in Betania in the last 4 km.

Breakfast at 5:30 am to start the hike at 7:30 am to San Isidro de Dota.

Arrival in San Isidro de Dota at approximately 11:30 am at the lodge called Rancho Tinamú, where you will share part of the day and night with the Parra family, very welcoming and friendly people; maybe in the evening. Mr. Santiago will play some music with his very famous guitar.

The lodge does not have electricity or hot water, but it does have private or shared bathrooms, bunk beds, and blankets. Here, you will have lunch, dinner, and breakfast.

Breakfast at 5:30 am to start the hike at 6:30 am to Londres de Quepos, where private transport will be waiting to take you to Quepos or Manuel Antonio.

Trekkers will have a break and lunch in Quebrada Arroyo at a lodge called Los Campesinos. Departure to London at approximately 2 pm.
